For many of us, knitting our first pair of socks is the moment we feel like a Knitter, with a capital K. While we love a basic top-down sock, we also have a soft spot for stripes. The two-colour chevron sock design in the Petal Socks pattern ticks all the boxes. With an easy-to-memorize pattern, the two colours dance together to create playful zigzag stripes.

TESTING OUT A NEW COLOURWAY COMBO
The Petal Socks pattern has a vintage look, with chevron stitch stripes that offer an excellent opportunity to showcase high-contrast variegated skeins. When we were looking for a new studio sample to knit for Socktober, we wanted a fresh combination to highlight one of our favourite colourways, Strawberry Tea. We chose SweetGeorgia Tough Love Sock yarn and paired Strawberry Tea with Gather, a rich and vibrant plum colourway with subtle berry undertones.
This sock pattern is worked from the cuff down and features a Dutch heel and wedge toe. To account for the chevron stitch pattern’s reduced elasticity, larger needles are used for the leg section. While the pattern shows two colour combinations (including the original Birch and Petal colourways), we can think of at least a dozen combos that would be fun to try together!

EXPLORE SOCK KNITTING AT THE SCHOOL
If you’re interested in learning more about how to knit socks, we have online courses at the School of SweetGeorgia to help you along the way. Courses include how to make custom socks top-down, toe-up, or two-at-a-time, or even spinning your own yarn for socks. You can also learn about sock knitting on a circular sock machine or on a flatbed knitting machine. Join in the sock knitting fun!
