Knit in the rich, tonal October 2026 Club colourway “Hot Cocoa”, this sample brings to mind crisp falling leaves and warm mugs of cocoa on a sunny October afternoon. Gentle cables create a rhythmic, textured pattern that is enjoyable to both knit and wear.
THE HOT COCOA CLUB COLOURWAY
The inspiration behind creating this month’s yarn was that we wanted to talk more about the idea of chromatic neutrals. Those are neutrals with colour! Hot Cocoa is the perfect example of this idea that colour can still be neutral — mid-tone, gentle brown, with flecks of rose and chocolate. It’s absolutely delicious. Dyed on our SweetGeorgia Mohair Silk Sock yarn, this base is blended from easy-care merino, mohair, silk, and nylon. It’s a fabulous yarn for making socks make socks, however, one of the most beautiful things about this yarn is how smooth and elegant the surface of this yarn is. Held double, this yarn makes a beautiful heavy DK or worsted weight equivalent. This is perfect for knitting into a project like a cabled hat.
CABLES, COLOUR, AND COZY DAYS
We chose the “A Twisted Affair” hat design by Joji Locatelli, knit by a member of our local knitting community, Irene. The deep ribbed brim has wonderful stretch, and you can wear this hat either folded for a snug, classic beanie or leave it down for a relaxed, slouchy fit.
Held double, the hand-dyed yarn’s subtle shifts in colour give every cable depth and dimension. It’s a project you’ll want to cast on the moment the weather turns and reach for all season long. A Twisted Affair Hat + Hot Cocoa Club Yarn
Equipment
- 1 Circular Knitting Needles in size US 6 / 4.00 mm
Materials
- 1 skein SweetGeorgia Mohair Silk Sock in Hot Cocoa *held double
Instructions
- To knit the Barley Sock hat, download a copy of the free pattern from Joji Locatelli.
- Once your gauge is determined, cast on the required number of stitches for your desired size. Follow the directions for working the brim of the hat, then follow knitting the length of the hat.
- Work the crown decreases. Break yarn and draw yarn through remaining stitches.
- Weave in ends and wet block the hat to finished measurements. Enjoy!
