Secret Stash Club Reveal: Dusty Lilac
Each month, we challenge ourselves to explore new and unexpected colours, often venturing beyond our comfort zones. However, our March Secret Stash Club colourway, Dusty Lilac, is a delightful exception—firmly rooted in my personal favourites. For once, we’re indulging in a hue that feels like a comforting neutral, effortlessly pairing with navy, grey, brown, beige, and black, and even serving as a subtle backdrop to brighter shades like magenta and turquoise. Sometimes it’s important to push boundaries… and sometimes it’s ok to just enjoy what you love.
EMBRACE THE COMFORT OF DUSTY LILAC
This month’s Dusty Lilac colourway is exactly in my comfort zone. If you saw two winter jackets, my latest pair of leggings, my notebook, my running shoes, and even my suitcase… they are ALL THIS COLOUR. Nearly my entire closet is some shade of desaturated purple with a hint of grey and brown. I wanted just one month where we could indulge and cozy up into a hue that I find to be almost a neutral in my closet. Every shade of navy, grey, brown, beige, and black goes with this subdued lilac purple.
Dusty Liliac also serves as a chromatic neutral next to brighter hues like magenta and turquoise. Honestly, my clothes have become quite easy to coordinate because they’re all nearly the same colour!
Each month we try to push our boundaries and explore colours we’ve never done before. We usually try to create colourways that take us outside of our comfort zone… but this month is different.
PROJECT IDEAS
For the Yarn:
With the hues in this colourway being so subtle and tonal, I would love to see this yarn held double for a more blended colour effect. One skein could be held double for a cozy knit or crochet cowl. And of course, one skein is usually enough for a scarf warp on a rigid heddle loom or multi-shaft loom.
In choosing a project to highlight the beautiful softness of this month’s special yarn base, Yak Silk Fine, a cozy next-to-skin pattern was the perfect choice. We selected Andrea Mowry’s Jaunty shawl pattern. Using only one skein of yarn creates a stunning project that works with a variety of outfits. Read more about this sample at the project page.
For the Fibre:
Cormo is a dream for both long-draw (woolen) and short-draw (worsted) spinning. You can prep this fibre on a blending board or hand cards to make rolags for spinning woolen. Or simply strip it, pre-draft, and spin it up!
Use Cormo for anything that needs to be cozy but structured—think squishy ribbed hats, cables that “pop,” or a warm winter cardigan that won’t sag over time. Try using this colour as a contrasting yoke together with a neutral or undyed wool.
