Grow Your Machine Knitting Skills with the Riverbend Bias Cowl
Meet the Riverbend Bias Cowl: a striking design that looks like it came straight from a boutique. Knit entirely on the LK 150 Knitting Machine, this cowl turns heads and sparks conversations. And when you say you made it yourself? Let’s just say you might have a few people asking for one of their own.
Created by the talented Barb Barone, this cowl shows off what’s possible with machine knitting. Barb also teaches the Machine Knitting: Basics course in the School of SweetGeorgia, where she helps knitters confidently add the LK 150 to their creative toolkit and expand their handmade horizons.

Machine Knitting: Basics
This course also includes two patterns you may already know and love: the Waterfalls Bias Shawl and the Lacy Lakes Bias Scarf. Both of these patterns are taught step by step in the course. The Riverbend Bias Cowl, however, is designed as your next challenge. While it isn’t demonstrated in any of the lessons, it builds beautifully on the skills and techniques you’ve learned throughout the course.

Once you’ve completed the first two projects, this cowl is the perfect opportunity to grow your confidence in reading pattern instructions and applying everything you’ve learned with Barb’s guidance.

This cowl is knit on the bias, which gives it beautiful drape and natural elasticity, making it easy to wear and effortless to style. With two open ends to create a seamless join, the entire project comes together right on the machine.

By using a finer yarn at a looser gauge, you get both loft and drape, making it especially comfortable to wear wrapped twice around your neck. The SweetGeorgia Silk Mist adds a soft halo that elevates the texture and look of the piece. We’re sure it will become one of your favourite go-to accessories in no time.
Explore More in the School of SweetGeorgia
This is just the beginning of what’s coming to the School of SweetGeorgia. In 2026, we’ll be expanding our machine knitting library with even more exciting projects, including hats, socks, and lace.
You can enjoy all three patterns through the School of SweetGeorgia or purchase them individually in the SweetGeorgia shop. Take a look at the other designs to see what’s possible with your knitting machine; you might just find your next project waiting.
