Every year, makers around the world fill their needles, hooks, and machines with colourful sock yarn for Socktober, a month-long celebration of handmade socks. This celebration of handmade socks brings our community together to inspire one another, share progress, learn new techniques, and enjoy the sock-making process. Whether you knit, crochet, machine knit, or make socks on a circular sock machine, everyone is welcome. In this post, we share why we hope you will join us for Socktober 2026 in our SweetGeorgia + Co Community.

Handmade Socks
There is something special about handmade socks. They are practical, beautiful, and endlessly creative. Hand-knit socks can be simple and timeless, full of stripes, lace, cables, colourwork, or a combination of techniques. They make thoughtful gifts, treasured keepsakes, and are worn as everyday favourites. Every pair tells its own story, and we think they are worth celebrating for an entire month.
Throughout October, we will share a new pattern and revisit community favourites, explore colourful sock yarns (plus a sock yarn sale!), blog posts and podcast episodes, and School of SweetGeorgia courses. Whether you make one pair or fill an entire drawer, we hope you will join us for a month of creativity, learning, and community.

Patterns To Cast On
We are delighted to introduce a brand-new CSM sock pattern for Socktober 2026: Classic Cabin Socks. The pattern will be available free to School of SweetGeorgia members or for purchase in the SweetGeorgia Shop.
Classic Cabin Socks: a New CSM Pattern
Knit from the cuff down with a hung hem, these socks are worked in two colours, with a contrasting stripe at the hem in a third colour for a touch of old-fashioned charm, giving them a warm, practical and timeless look. You’ll reach for these socks all winter long.

Learn Something New
Whether you are casting on your very first sock or your hundredth, there is always something new to discover. Our School of SweetGeorgia sock courses are designed to help you start sock knitting from scratch, master new techniques, and find the construction methods that work best for you.
New: Machine Knitting Socks course with Barb Barone
Who doesn’t love socks made from stunning hand-dyed yarn? Making socks on a knitting machine is simple; it just takes a different way of looking at it. And once we get going, there is no end to the alterations we can make, including a slip-stitch heel, stripes, ribbing, colourwork, and more. This is just the start!
In this course, we swatch, measure for a custom fit, and machine-knit the included MK Basics Socks pattern from cuff to toe, with a heel flap and gusset.
Throughout this course, we explore measuring our feet for a perfect fit, how to scrap off stitches, seaming on and off the machine, creating short rows for toe shaping and multiple ways to finish our socks for flawless results.

Join The Celebration with Us
One of the best parts of Socktober is sharing your hand-knit socks. Every pair of socks is different, reflecting the maker behind them through colour, technique, and personal style. Whether you knit, crochet, weave, sew, machine knit, or crank your socks on a CSM, we would love to see what you are making.
Share your projects in the SweetGeorgia + Co Community. Cheer one another on, ask questions, celebrate finished objects, and maybe even inspire someone’s next cast on.
However you choose to take part, we hope Socktober 2026 is filled with colourful yarn, satisfying stitches, new skills, and the joy of making socks.
