Fuel on the Fire: Our Lunar New Year Celebration on Yarn & Fibre!
This is our third Lunar New Year colourway. We truly enjoy the many ways we can express ourselves through colour, and this year is something we are especially excited to share.
Fire Horse
Depending on your culture, religion, or beliefs, the Fire Horse can mean different things. Many seem to agree that it represents high energy, strength, and great change. A turning point. And what we choose to do with that energy is up to us.
At SweetGeorgia, we see it as a way to fuel our desires, to add “Fuel on the Fire”. We have strong drives and ambitions, and we choose to use the energy of the Fire Horse to support our creative dreams. Learning new skills, starting new crafts, and setting ourselves up for a year of success. Driving personal growth and being willing to take on new challenges.
Fuel on the Fire
When we look back at our 2024 colourway, Double Dragon, this year’s colourway may look similar at first glance. Bold and fierce colours, built on top of one another. But for this year’s colourway, we added a vibrant yet gentle purple, while leaving some areas untouched, undyed.
We want to stoke the fire, but we also want to remember not to be reckless or rush forward without a plan. To keep a calm head, to be thoughtful and intentional. We wanted a colourway that energizes us while still feeling gentle and calming, because at the end of the day, our craft grounds us.
Leaving a touch of white (undyed fibre) is also a nod to the Pantone colourway Cloud Dancer. A quiet way to show calm within the fire, surrendering to the peace that comes with the process of our making.
Corriedale Wool
We love Corriedale wool. It is a wool that is strong enough to withstand use as a sock yarn and outerwear, yet soft enough to wear around your neck or face. And it pills less than other wools, helping finished projects look beautiful for years to come.
Corriedale Sock Yarn
This is a new-to-us yarn. In the spirit of the Fire Horse, we wanted to challenge ourselves by using a new yarn base. We wanted versatility in how it could be used. The twist creates a durable yarn that works well for socks or outerwear, while remaining smooth and soft for shawls and hats. We are currently using it in a scarf project we will share next week, and we are already happily snuggling into it. It is also a non-superwash wool, making it perfect for colourwork projects, especially mittens and sweaters.
Corriedale Fibre
Although this is our third year celebrating the Lunar Year with hand-dyed yarn, this is our first year dyeing the colourway on fibre. It felt fitting to dye a version of this colourway since we are celebrating Corriedale wool.
Corriedale spinning fibre is a favourite among newer spinners. Its staple length is not so short that it requires a tight grip, and not so long that it feels like a tug of war between your hands. It takes twist well and produces a beautifully soft yarn.
You may have noticed that in the School of SweetGeorgia courses, you will see many instructors choosing this fibre. Not only is it excellent for learning with, but also because it blends beautifully with other fibres such as silk, mohair, alpaca, and flax. We encourage you to drive your explorations with what you can make with this spinning fibre!
Fuel Your Fire
If you are looking to challenge yourself by learning to spin, fuel your fire with Corriedale fibre. Or, explore unfamiliar yarn bases in your knitting, weaving, and crochet projects. While we are energized and ready to move forward, remember it is important to pause, be thoughtful, take meaningful steps, and enjoy the process.
