Secret Stash Club Reveal: Apple Picking
We’re excited to unveil our September 2025 Secret Stash Club colourway for both yarn and fibre: Apple Picking! As autumn arrives and we settle into the rhythms of the season—back to school, cooler days, and cozy traditions—there’s nothing quite like the simple joy of apple picking. Inspired by the rich, nuanced hues found in every apple—rosy reds, warm oranges, pale yellows, greens, and freckled browns—this month’s colourway captures the essence of fall’s bounty. Reminiscing about childhood trips to the orchard and looking forward to new creative projects, “Apple Picking” is designed to bring the warmth and wonder of the season right into your hands.

OUR SEPTEMBER COLOUR STORY
This month’s colourway is full of rich, warm depth and nuance. As we get back to September, back to school, and back to simple autumn joy, apple picking seems like something that’s perfect for the season.

I remember going to the local farm with my kids when they were in preschool, on a field trip to the pumpkin patch. There was always a giant bin of apples that the kids could freely choose from. And the amount of time we would spend choosing one free apple… not this one, it’s too green… not this one, it’s too brown…
Apples are not just red or green — they are so full of colour and nuance. The skin could be all shades of rosy red, pink, warm orange, pale yellow, acid green, brown, beige, and with little freckles of brown. This month’s colourway is meant to give that feel of holding an apple in your hand. Turn it over in your hands and discover all the colours.

PROJECT IDEAS & INSPIRATION
For the Yarn
Ages ago, I wrote up pattern instructions to knit a lace scarf out of our SweetGeorgia CashSilk Lace yarn. Since then, we’ve updated the pattern to include fingering-weight instructions and knit this month’s colourway into the CashSilk Fern Scarf. The Apple Picking yarn is colourful but still gentle enough that it does not obscure the lace pattern. The colours produce a bit of a delicate wave through the fabric. You can read more about this sample at the project page.

For the Fibre
This fibre is perfect for comfy and warm socks! At the SweetGeorgia Community space, we’re having a spinning challenge this month, spinning 3-ply crepe yarn for socks. It’s an interesting yarn structure that is super springy but strong. Join the SweetGeorgia Community and spin along with us, and enjoy creating handspun to get ready for next month’s Socktober.

If you’re interested in learning more about creating handspun yarn for knitting socks, we also encourage you to check out Rachel Smith’s fabulous Spin to Knit Socks course at the School of SweetGeorgia.
