Secret Stash Knitting: Sheaves Shawl

June’s Secret Stash Club brings a burst of inspiration with our new Lapis Lazuli colourway. This gemstone’s deep blue hues and golden streaks sparked our creativity, leading us to knit a stunning shawl sample that highlights the beauty of this month’s yarn. Showcasing the elegance of the deep, cobalt blue, this project celebrates the magic of Lapis Lazuli in every stitch.

THE LAPIS LAZULI CLUB YARN

Chosen as one of the 2025 colours of the year, “cosmic cobalt” is a super saturated, striking, royal, and rich blue. This colour is inspired by Lapis Lazuli, which is a semi-precious gemstone used in jewelry and art since 7500 BC. This cobalt blue is deep, celestial, and reminiscent of a starry night sky.

The June 2025 Secret Stash yarn colourway draws inspiration from both the gemstone and Felicia’s kids, who love the video game Minecraft. From extracting dye colours from minerals and rocks in the game, learn more about the inspiration behind this colourway at our blog reveal.

THE SHEAVES SHAWL PATTERN

When we first looked at Lapis Lazuli and noticed the gold streaks in the rock, Felicia imagined creating something with gold accents. For example, you could knit, crochet, or weave a shawl and finish it with a border of gold thread or ribbon. On the other hand, a stole, scarf, or shawl in this rich cobalt blue looks beautiful even without any trim.

One skein of SweetGeorgia Mohair Silk Sock is all you need for this sweet Sheaves shawlette

This month, we chose the Sheaves lace shawlette by Meg Roke for our sample knitting. Linda knit the sample using one skein of SweetGeorgia Mohair Silk Sock in Lapis Lazuli. The result is a lovely accessory.

The shawl feels feather-light and features a striking slipped stitch eyelet pattern that looks like wheat sheaves. The pattern is simple to knit. The rhythmic stitches show off the yarn’s subtle colour variations beautifully.

Instructions

  • To knit the Sheaves shawl design, download a copy of the pattern — available at the SweetGeorgia online shop.
  • Follow directions for casting on, then following the required number of repeats for the beginning section of the shawl.
  • Continue following the short row directions as written in the pattern.
  • Using the Backward Loop Cast-On method, cast on 3 stitches which will be the first three i-cord stitches. Continue the directions until all the stitches of the shawl have been worked. To finish, knit the remaining three stitches together through the back loops and then secure.
  • Weave in ends and block to measurements. This will help to open up the pattern design and create a nice drape in the fabric. Enjoy!
