How to Wet Finish & Block the Good Cheer Crochet Scarf

Hello, and welcome to the final post in our 2021 Advent crochet project, the Good Cheer scarf. We know you are eager to wrap yourself in this beautiful, colourful scarf or gift it to someone special this holiday season. Whether you keep it for yourself or give it away, Charlotte has filmed one last video to guide you on how to wet finish and block the Good Cheer scarf. Below the video, you’ll find written instructions.

We would also love to see your finished projects! Share them in our School of SweetGeorgia forums or on social media with the hashtag #sweetgeorgia.

How to Wet Finish & Block the Good Cheer Scarf

Equipment

  • 1 Good Cheer Scarf
  • 1 Blocking Surface
  • 1 Bowl or sink to soak project
  • 1 Wool detergent (like Soak)
  • 1 Towel or salad spinner
  • 1 Blocking pins (optional)

Instructions

  • For this project, we want to smooth out the width rather than the length. Follow these steps for light blocking:
Soak the scarf in water with a bit of Soak (or another gentle wool wash) for 15 minutes.
  • Remove excess water using a salad spinner or by rolling the scarf in a towel.
  • Lay the scarf flat on a mattress, carpet, or blocking mats.
  • Smooth it out from the centre outward, working width-wise along the length of the scarf.
  • If you have T-pins, use them to accent the peaks of the lace pattern at the first and last edges. If you don’t have pins, the edges will still look great.

Notes

This is a light block, so blocking wires is not necessary. Enjoy your finished Good Cheer scarf!
