How to Weave in Ends As You Crochet!
Weaving in ends is one of the most tedious parts of finishing a crochet project, especially when you’ve been working on something like a long scarf. Imagine reaching the end of your project, only to face the daunting task of weaving in all those stray yarn ends. It’s enough to make anyone dread finishing!
But what if there was a way to avoid all that extra work? In this video and tutorial, Charlotte Lee shows you an easy technique for weaving in your ends as you crochet. No extra tools, no needles, just your trusty crochet hook and a simple adjustment to your process. This trick seamlessly hides the yarn ends as you go, saving you time and frustration when your project is complete.

How to Weave in Ends As You Crochet!
Instructions
Before Your Begin
-
Attach your new yarn (pink) to the project. Leave a tail of about 2–3 inches for both the old and new strands. Toss the new end aside for now.
Weave in Ends for Single Crochet
-
Insert your needle into the stitch to begin the single crochet.
-
Lay the old yarn tail (blue) on top of your crochet hook.
-
Hold the old yarn alongside your project with light tension, keeping it parallel to the row you’re working on.
-
Complete the stitch by pulling new yarn through both yarns on the hook. Continue crocheting until the old yarn tail is fully hidden (at least 2 inches).
Checking Our Work & Finishing the Old Yarn End
-
As you can see from the back side, the yarn tail is hidden.
-
If a tiny bit of the old tail remains, either: trim the excess close to the stitches with scissors.
-
Or, tug it gently to bury the tail in the stitches.
-
Be gentle and do this a few times to encourage the yarn tail to snug in.
-
And done! The yarn tail is hidden! After completing the row, you’ll need to weave in the new yarn tail. Repeat the same process as before, weaving it into the next row of stitches.
Weave in Ends for Double Crochet
-
For stitches like double crochet that begin with a chain at the start of a row, it’s important to start differently to avoid creating a large float on the back, as shown here.
-
Wrap the yarn tail over the hook as you make the first chain. Create the two remaining chains as usual.
-
The yarn tail is now carried up and hidden.
-
Double crochet follows a similar process to single crochet. Yarn over, insert the hook into the stitch, position the yarn tail over the hook, and complete the double crochet as usual.
Weave in Ends While Skipping Stitches
-
If the pattern instructs you to skip stitches, we need to carry the yarn up to avoid a large float, like shown here.
-
This means we need to carry the yarn up on the last stitch before the skipped stitches. Start the double crochet, but stop before the last through of two loops. Then, bring the yarn tail from front to back over the working yarn and finish the stitch.
-
This puts the yarn tail at the top of the double crochet stitch.
Weave in Ends in Chain Stitches
-
Sometimes, patterns call for chain stitches after skipping stitches. This is done similarly to how we carry it up for the start of a double crochet row. For the first chain, lay the yarn end over the working strand from front to back and make the chain.
-
For the next chain, lay the yarn end over the working strand from back to front and make the chain.
-
Repeat this wrapping motion to secure the yarn end through the chains.
-
The yarn ends are fully hidden in the single, double, and chain stitches!
