Secret Stash Club Knitting: Spring Mug Cozy

There’s something especially satisfying about colourwork in soft pastels and wool, it feels playful and soothing all at once. For our April Secret Stash Club sample, we leaned into gentle, airy shades that bring a fresh spring mood while still giving the motifs enough contrast to stand out clearly. Below, we’re sharing how Charlotte paired this Peruvian wool base with a cozy, practical project and how she chose the mini-skein palette to make the colourwork sing.

THE SPRING MIX COLOUR STORY

For our April Secret Stash Club, we wanted to create a set of mini-skeins in a palette that would evoke the light, delicate colours of spring. The early crocus, lilacs, bluebells, and lily of the valley flowers that add a touch of colour to those early spring gardens. These colourways were then hand-dyed on a special yarn base: 100% Peruvian Fine wool.

COLOURWORK AND A SOFT MUG COZY (OR TWO!)

For this month’s Club sample, Charlotte was inspired by colourwork, a perfect pairing for this Peruvian wool base. Using the Base Doodle Cup Cozy pattern by Jamie Lomax, Charlotte then selected a variety of colourwork motifs from Pacific Knit Co.’s Doodle Card Deck, Basic Core version.

The palette of airy mint, sky blue, lilac, and creamy neutrals stand out in the colourwork without feeling too loud. These shades blend into gentle, shifting shapes that stay interesting stitch after stitch. The softened tones give the project a light, spring feel while still creating enough contrast for the pattern to pop. It’s the kind of colour mix that feels instantly fun and calming to work with.

With the leftover yarn, Charlotte also created a crochet colourwork cloth with a fun floral pattern. The design is from a Japanese pattern book Complete Collection of Flower Bags and Pouches (Section 1, Nordic 2 & 3).
