Horseshoe Bay Hat & SweetGeorgia Trifecta DK: A Perfect Pairing
Who doesn’t love a new yarn? There is something special about trying a fresh new yarn base. You wonder how it feels on the needles, how it behaves at different gauges, and whether your favourite colourway looks just as beautiful. Is it better suited for sweaters or woven blankets? We ask the same questions every time we explore a new yarn.
One of the best ways to get to know a yarn is by knitting a hat. Greta Cornejo decided to do just that with her Horseshoe Bay Hat with our new SweetGeorgia Trifecta DK yarn.
Horseshoe Bay Hat
The Horseshoe Bay Hat features a striking horseshoe cable running down the centre, framed by two columns of slanted cables. The rest of the hat is worked in a bubble stitch, adding texture, depth, and an extra bit of squish to the fabric.
While this hat is only for her personal use, we couldn’t help but spotlight it. In the coming weeks, Greta writes about her process of combining stitch patterns, finding the right gauge, and experimenting with pattern writing. We can’t wait to share the process with you.
SweetGeorgia Trifecta DK
That’s right. We took the much-loved SweetGeorgia Trifecta Fine and released it in a DK weight. SweetGeorgia Trifecta DK keeps everything you already love about the original blend. Bluefaced Leicester wool offers strength and softness, silk adds sheen and durability, and mohair brings warmth and resilience. As with the fingering-weight version, this base takes dye beautifully and shows off colour with gentle vibrancy
Paired with the Horseshoe Bay Hat, the cables stand out, the bubbles feel full and plush, and the fabric is wonderfully soft. It is the kind of project that brings instant satisfaction, making it hard to put your knitting down.
SweetGeorgia Merino DK
Of course, while we love exploring new yarns, we also enjoy revisiting favourites. Greta also knit a version in SweetGeorgia Merino DK. Merino is soft, cozy, and comforting, and the Easy-Care wool makes it especially well-suited for gift knitting (she made a few!).
Making Cables
Have you ever knit a cable before? Learn how in our Cables 101 course at the School of SweetGeorgia, taught by Tabetha Hedrick. You will learn how to read cable abbreviations and charts, knit 3, 4, and 5-stitch cables, knit without a cable needle, and most importantly, fix mistakes.
Later this year, we will launch our newest cable course, Advanced Cables with Linda Marveng, to take your stitch-moving and cable-making techniques to the next level.
The School of SweetGeorgia offers over 120+ video-based courses on knitting, spinning, dyeing, weaving, and more. We have something for every maker. The SweetGeorgia Community is the perfect place to meet multicraftual makers to support, inspire, encourage, and connect.
