Welcome the Season with Handwoven Wall of Troy Table Runners
There is something truly special about having a handwoven runner at the centre of your dining table when you welcome friends and family for a meal. Home-cooked dishes, soft candlelight, and the sounds of glasses meeting in celebration all gather around this simple piece of cloth. It feels magical, because it is.
The Intentional Weaver
Originally designed for The Intentional Weaver course at the School of SweetGeorgia, Laura Fry created this pattern to bring together the skills, techniques, and tips she teaches throughout the course. From making a warp and dressing the loom to learning ergonomics, so you can weave safely for years, this course helps you understand your loom while also caring for your body as a weaver.
Original Wall of Troy Runners
Woven in the beautiful Gist 3/2 Beam yarn in a wintry blue and white palette, and a summery yellow and white palette. The 3/2 weaving yarn also works up quickly, making this a project that goes from loom to table in almost no time. With both 4- and 8-shaft drafts included with different treadling, it welcomes more weavers, and offers variety if you want to weave it again!
Refreshed Wall of Troy Runners
At SweetGeorgia, we often like to explore themes, and this month we are celebrating Holiday Home Decor. Even though the original runner features wintry and summery colours, we wondered what might happen if we changed the palette. Earlier this month, we shared a post, Celebrate with Colour: Give Weaving Drafts a Holiday Makeover, which sparked many possibilities. It was hard not to weave them all!
With a simple colour swap, we rewove the runner in red. It is incredible how one colour can change the mood so much!
woven in Maurice Brassard 8/4 Unmercerized Cotton!
8-Shaft Treading Variation
Laura Fry also included a second 8-shaft version with a treadling variation, which we couldn’t resist weaving as well. For all the refreshed versions, we decided to change up the yarn as well, using Maurice Brassard 8/4 Unmercerized Cotton. The result, a touch of autumn that moves easily through to the holiday season, offering months of enjoyment.
