Secret Stash Club Knitting: Winter Dawn Shawl
Wrap yourself in the season’s cozy charm and knit something truly special with the Winter Dawn shawl and our December 2025 Secret Stash Club colourway: Cold Snap. Inspired by childhood memories of snow Toronto winters and the hope for a rare west coast snowfall, Cold Snap captures the magic of winter. With warm cranberry reds, cool wintry blues, and crisp white tones, this colourway is our wish for a beautiful snowfall this winter.
To showcase this special colourway, we knit Tabetha Hedrick’s Winter Dawn shawl—a perfect piece for cozying up in, highlighting the hand-dyed hues as we dream of snow-dusted mornings. Bring a touch of winter wonder to your handmade wardrobe!

THE COLD SNAP STORY
This month’s colourway, Cold Snap, is Felicia’s little prayer for snow this winter. Her childhood was spent in Toronto where there was snow every winter, sometimes as early as October. Snow angels, making bricks of snow, and of course rolling up snowmen were part of it all. Here on the west coast, we don’t get much snow. We’re hoping that we get a cold snap and then, for a couple days, have beautiful snow in the city.
These hand-dyed hues are designed to evoke the tart, sharp, and dark hues of cranberry red, paired with deep icicle navy and blue against a crisp white background. See more about this month’s colourway at the December Club reveal post.
KNITTING THE WINTER DAWN SHAWL
Showcasing the unique charm of December’s Cold Snap Club colourway, Tabetha Hedrick’s Winter Dawn pattern is a perfect pair. The texture and drape highlight our SweetGeorgia CashSilk Solo singles yarn beautifully—a base that is perfect for knitting light yet warm shawls and scarves.
The resulting piece has a lovely blend of soft, cool tones with subtle pops of deep hues, creating a visually striking yet harmonious fabric. Perfect for layering, this shawl not only adds warmth but also serves as a stunning accessory. Knitting with the Cold Snap colourway brings out the best in both the pattern and the yarn, resulting in a piece that is both cozy and full of character.

Winter Dawn Shawl in the Cold Snap Club Colourway
Equipment
-
1 Circular Knitting Needles in size US 6 / 4.0mm
Materials
- 1 skein SweetGeorgia CashSilk Solo in Cold Snap
Instructions
-
To knit the Winter Dawn shawl design, download a copy of the pattern — available at the SweetGeorgia online shop.
-
Follow directions for casting on, then following the required number of repeats for the setup rows of the pattern.
-
Continue following the knitting pattern, omitting the directions to change yarns—continue the entire shawl in the Cold Snap colourway. See the notes below for details on adjustments made due to the yardage difference from the original pattern.
-
Weave in ends and wet block. This will help to open up the pattern design and create a nice drape in the fabric. Enjoy!

Notes
Slightly altered last 2 wrap rows by slipping the first stitch instead of knitting.
Used Jenny’s Stretchy Bind Off. Worked purl stitches on the RS. Next time suggestion: work fewer garter rows and fewer wrap repeats.
This yarn was so nice to work with. Soft and just the right amount of slippery.
