Secret Stash Club Reveal: Life in the Woods

We are SO excited to share our November 2025 Secret Stash Club yarn: Life in the Woods! Inspired by the richness and mystery of the forest, this month’s yarn is a deep, enchanting blend of purples, golds, moss greens, brass, and brown. Each skein telling it’s own unique story, the colourway captures the magic of nature’s palette. As the days grow shorter, Life in the Woods is a celebration of finding beauty and light even in the darkest moment. Whether you’re knitting, crocheting, or weaving, we hope this special yarn brings a sense of wonder and inspiration to your creative journey this season.

Introducing November 2025’s colourway: Life in the Woods

THE NOVEMBER COLOUR STORY

The Life in the Woods colourway is deep, dark, and mysterious. A mix of purples, golds, moss greens, brass, and brown, the colours are rich and varied and every skein is uniquely dyed even though they all came from the same dye pot.

This colourway perfectly embodies one of my favourite lyrics “even in the darkness, every colour can be found.” It’s the idea that beauty, truth, and perspective can persist even in hard times. Initially we wanted to call it “Into the Woods” after the fairytale musical with all the magical twists and turns. In the end, we called it “Life in the Woods” after Thoreau’s book Walden which was about escaping society to live in the wilderness and gain perspective on life.

PROJECT IDEAS

Dyed on our SweetGeorgia CashLuxe Fine base, this yarn is soft, warm, and cushy to knit and crochet with. It is beautiful when worked up into scarves, shawls, and garments. Since the fibre content is fine merino wool and cashmere, it’s not hardwearing and so any socks that you make from this yarn will be quite delicate.

Using a single skein of yarn, we’ve knit Barb Barone’s Lacy Lakes Bias Scarf pattern on the knitting machine. It’s a beautiful project idea that requires just one skein of yarn. You can also find a number of one-skein project ideas at our online shop. The SweetGeorgia Team has also been inspired to make a number of projects using this month’s yarn. Pairing Life in the Woods with different colourways of SweetGeorgia Silk Mist shows the amazing versatility of this colourway. (More photos coming soon!)

Joining Crochet Granny Squares – It’s Easier Than I Imagined!

I recently learned how to continuously “join as you go” (JAYG) for crochet granny squares and I LOVE this technique. And so on today’s Taking Back Friday video , I want to share an update on my Jethro Cardigan project and how I joined the granny squares. As I shared in a previous vlog episode , I’ve been making crochet squares out of three different sets of our Superwash DK Party of Five mini-skein sets. I finished making the 36 granny squares needed, which no two are identical. However, after crocheting all of the squares, I was stuck on how to join them together. They simply sat finished in a pile for a couple of weeks. Luckily, Tanis provided resources with her pattern and one of them was for the “Join as You Go” tutorial. It was fantastic. What is a diz, and why do you need one? Together with a good set of hand carders and a flicker, a diz may be one of the cheapest and most useful fibre prep tools you can get. If I had to choose, I would go as far as having a set of hand carders and my set of dizzes as my only fibre tools. They are versatile and extremely compact. What’s a Diz For? After you jump out of a flicker or the “dog brush” (as your first fibre tool), most people acquire a set of hand carders.  Hand carders  are an incredibly handy tool. It allows us to blend colours, as Diana Twiss shows us in the  Colour & Fibre Play  course adding  Spinning Mix-ins  for a textured preparation.
