Second Beach Cowl: Combining Silk Mist and Trifecta Fine for Stunning Results

Part of a collection of samples we knit in 2025 for h+h Americas in Chicago, the Second Beach cowl sample, designed by Holli Yeoh, is a dreamy delight. Included in Holli’s Tempest pattern collection, this project sweeps you away to daydreams of fresh salty air and the stunning colours of the sea. This particular project was chosen to highlight the combination of the light halo of SweetGeorgia Silk Mist with the cozy woolliness of SweetGeorgia Trifecta Fine. It’s a fun opportunity to pair your favourite hand-dyed hues—dive into your own Second Beach cowl project!

KNITTING FROM THE TEMPEST COLLECTION

Originally published in October 2014, we continue to be enamoured by the Tempest pattern collaboration with knitwear designer and instructor Holli Yeoh. Including the Second Beach cowl, the collection features 11 beautifully crafted patterns, including garments, hats, mitts, cowls, and blankets.

The Second Beach cowl is part of a series within this collection—First, Second, and Third Beach—inspired by the popular beaches in Stanley Park, Vancouver. Designed with bands of lace increases and decreases that push and pull garter ridge bands, it creates undulating lines like ripples in the sand. For the lace band, it is first worked in stockinette stitch which is then followed by working reverse stockinette. This technique creates a versatile reversible fabric. It can be worn cozily close to skin, wrapped around three times, or wrapped twice for a relaxed look.

Choose your favourite combo of SweetGeorgia Silk Mist and SweetGeorgia Trifecta Fine and knit your next favourite accessory. Gorgeous stitches combined with luxurious yarn equate to pure bliss!

Notes

Pattern information from designer Holli Yeoh:
The bands of lace are first worked in stockinette stitch, then reverse stockinette, creating a reversible fabric. The increases and decreases in the lace push and pull the garter ridges around to create undulating lines like ripples in the sand.
