From Skein to Style: Knitting the Rib Welt Cowl with Hand-Dyed Colour

Searching for a vibrant project to liven up your knitting needles? Look no further than SweaterFreak’s Rib Welt Cowl! Part of the Rib Welt collection, this series is a wonderful way to showcase those treasured skeins of hand-dyed yarn. Suitable for knitters of all skill levels, this project is the second sample we’ve been inspired to knit from the collection (see the Rib Welt Scarf project). With its modern twist on a classic accessory, the cowl combines rich texture with the unique character of SweetGeorgia’s Merino DK yarn. This project celebrates colour, creativity, and the joy of handmade style.

KNITTING THE RIB WELT COWL

A beautiful opportunity to highlight those special skeins, SweaterFreak’s Rib Welt pattern collection is fun for knitters of all levels. In this collection, the Rib Welt Cowl is a twist on a classic. It highlights the harmony between the pattern’s texture and the personality and character of dreamy hand-dyed yarns.

For the Rib Welt Cowl sample, we chose to showcase our popular SweetGeorgia Merino DK yarn. Whether you’re drawn to light hues or crave the drama of deep, moody tones, Merino DK offers a unique journey through hand-dyed colour. We chose Odyssey, a deep and dreamy shade that is part of our Eclipse Collection colourways. This collection of colours is inspired by the autumn equinox, blending the allure of jewel tones with the mystique of celestial shades.

As Jenny of SweaterFreak shares in the pattern info: “Rib Welt cowl is a twist on a classic – it joins its siblings, the hat and the scarf! Gentle shaping and slit ensure the perfect fit and because it’s 14” long, it can be folded for style too. The cowl is worked bottom up flat then joined in the round and decreased to end.”
