Step into Stranded Colourwork with the O’Deery Me Sweater

There’s something truly captivating about colourwork knitting. The way two or more colours move in and out of the fabric, forming motifs and patterns, brings knitters joy. Our newest pattern, the O’Deery Me sweater, is part of the Stranded Colourwork Sweater course with Caitlin Shepherd of Plucky Pigeon Knits, offered through the School of SweetGeorgia. In this course, Caitlin walks you through every step of knitting this beautiful three-colour sweater. Also, she shows you how to add the third colour anywhere with duplicate stitch, opening up exciting possibilities for even more colourful adventures.

Start Small: Stranded Colourwork Mittens

If you’ve tried a bit of colourwork but feel unsure about moving from charts to finished pieces, Caitlin’s first course with the School of SweetGeorgia is a wonderful starting point. In Stranded Colourwork Mittens, she shares her favourite techniques for working with multiple yarns, choosing colour combinations, and reading charts. The course includes the charming Deery Me Mittens pattern, a small and approachable project that gives you a strong foundation before taking on something larger, like a sweater.

Build Confidence: Stranded Colourwork Sweater

Caitlin’s second course builds on the skills from her first. In Stranded Colourwork Sweater, she leads you through knitting a top-down sweater that’s easy to try on as you go. Along the way, she revisits key techniques such as lifelines and duplicate stitch and introduces you to how to choose a well-fitting shape, working shadow short rows, and finishing techniques. The result is a garment you’ll be proud to wear, and even prouder to say you made yourself.

  • Following the pattern instructions, place the sleeve stitches on waste yarn to hold them.
  • Continue knitting the body of the sweater as instructed in the pattern. When you reach the correct length for your size, finish with the hem ribbing.
  • Pick up the sleeve stitches from the waste yarn and place them back on your needles. Follow the pattern instructions for the sleeve shaping and decreases as you knit each sleeve down to the cuff.
