Secret Stash Club Reveal: Future Dusk

With deep, dusky purples reminiscent of lavender and lilacs, we’re delighted to share our first Secret Stash Club colourway with you for 2025 — Future Dusk! One of the fundamental beliefs we have at SweetGeorgia is this idea that the colours that we surround ourselves with can transform our experience of life. So we wanted to create a colour like “Future Dusk” to offer comfort, reassurance, and hopefully relaxation. Surround yourself with a wash of colour that makes you feel strong, vibrant, and ready for the new year!

THE “FUTURE DUSK” COLOURWAY STORY

Every year there is a “colour of the year” deemed by colour forecasters that encompasses the feelings, mood, and zeitgeist. What does it feel like to be in this moment in time?

For 2025, Pantone selected its colour of the year to be “Mocha Mousse” which is a warm, light chocolate brown meant to reflect our collective desire for comfort. I feel like we answered this colour story in our December colourway “Hug and a Mug” with its delicate, neutral, warm browns and pinks.

WSGN is another group that offers predictions and forecasting, and they selected “Future Dusk” as their 2025 colour of the year. WSGN describes it as a “dark, moody and intriguing hue, sitting between blue and purple. It has a sense of mystery and escapism, and feeds into themes of transition — whether it be moving from dark to light, or dusk to dawn — making it perfect for a period of immense change. It offers a fresh take on dependable dark blue, and manages to feel simultaneously familiar and futuristic.”

To reflect on Future Dusk, our dye team opted to create this gorgeous purple colourway, with its varied palette of dark and light violets, a touch of blue, a touch of plum. Personally, all of last year, my favourite colour has been pale lilac and this new, deeper version of lilac and lavender is just so perfect.

PROJECT IDEAS

For this month’s colourway, we suggest making socks, mitts, gloves, or hats… anything that is designed to keep you toasty warm! This yarn is a beautiful blend of natural wool, mohair, and silk which creates a wooly, elastic, and slightly glossy yarn. Spun as a 3-ply, it is strong and serves well for harder-wearing items.

Charlotte knit this month’s colourway into my Ballard Slouch hat design (a free download on Ravelry!). Held double to knit as a worsted weight, it was a fun and quick knit project. The yarn held doubled works beautifully with the colour variation in the yarn. It helps to mix and blend the colours more smoothly.

Joining Crochet Granny Squares – It’s Easier Than I Imagined!

I recently learned how to continuously “join as you go” (JAYG) for crochet granny squares and I LOVE this technique. And so on today’s Taking Back Friday video , I want to share an update on my Jethro Cardigan project and how I joined the granny squares. As I shared in a previous vlog episode , I’ve been making crochet squares out of three different sets of our Superwash DK Party of Five mini-skein sets. I finished making the 36 granny squares needed, which no two are identical. However, after crocheting all of the squares, I was stuck on how to join them together. They simply sat finished in a pile for a couple of weeks. Luckily, Tanis provided resources with her pattern and one of them was for the “Join as You Go” tutorial. It was fantastic. I’m so proud and excited that I’m almost done. I love how it is turning out, and playing with colours has been the most fun part of this project. Winterful Weave-Along: Weaving WIPs

Part of the fun of any make-along is to connect with fellow makers — to share your progress, ask questions, and be inspired by others’ work. We’ve absolutely loved seeing all of your photos and the journey of all of the weave-along weavers both at our Discord and SOS Forum spaces. SweetGeorgia Team Member, Greta, has now started weaving her second Kaleidoscope Scarf ! Helping to add some additional needed yardage for the border colour with our SweetGeorgia Individual Mini-Skeins (in Bison), Greta is following her own weft order — adding in some yellow picks and writing the order on a sticky note so the pattern can be easily repeated.
