Knitting “Wood Snake” and the Krouse Scarf for Lunar New Year
Celebrate the spirit of Lunar New Year 2025 with our new yarn colourway, Wood Snake. This limited-edition release is perfect for creating beautiful pieces that welcome the new year with hope and joy, created to honour the vibrant traditions of this celebration. The calming greens symbolize growth and abundance, while the cool blues evoke peace and prosperity—all with a delicate splash of purple dancing through the yarn.
As we looked to test working with this year’s hand-dyed hues, Charlotte chose the beautiful drape of Tabetha Hedrick’s knitting pattern, Krouse. The long, graceful shape of the scarf is a beautiful match for the spirit of the Year of the Wood Snake, reflecting the balance between refinement and strength.
WOOD SNAKE COLOURWAY
Whether you’re crafting a cozy sweater, scarf, or colourful accessories, Wood Snake adds a touch of good luck to every stitch. The calming hues of green represent growth and renewal, plus they align with the element of wood. These soft, mossy and forest tones encourage the exploration of new opportunities and personal development. Adding in blue symbolizes spring and brings a positive energy, and the purple aligns with the Snake’s reflective nature.

Our SweetGeorgia Mohair Silk Sock yarn was chosen for dyeing this year’s colourway. A soft yet strong yarn designed for sock knitting, this custom blend creates smooth and hardwearing hand-knits. It takes all the best features of merino wool, mohair, and silk and blends them together, with a fine stitch definition that works well in cabled, textured, and lace knitting. Colours also dye brilliantly on this base because of the glossy mohair and silk fibres.

For this year’s celebration, we’ve also brought back a popular colourway from the vault — Double Dragon. Created for last year’s Lunar New Year, this unique colourway captures the essence of the dragon—a powerful and auspicious symbol in Chinese culture. The bright red symbolizes good fortune, joy, and happiness, while the golden yellow represents wealth, prosperity, and success. Read more about this colourway here »

KROUSE SCARF BY TABETHA HEDRICK
This chic little accessory design by Tabetha Hedrick breaks the bounds of rectangle scarves. It’s a fabulous accessory for wearing year-round. With eyelet lace throughout the entire piece, simple pattern repeats make for soothing openwork practice. The scarf is worked sideways in one piece, beginning with a few stitches and then growing in width very gradually.

Start your year with a burst of colour and creativity! With this year symbolizing growth, renewal, and wisdom, we send our best wishes for a prosperous year ahead. Whether you knit, crochet, or weave with this colourway, we would love to see what you create with it!
