Everything I made in 2024
A Year-End Review of my 2024 Make Nine Plans
As the year comes to a close, life can feel especially busy. But amidst the hustle, we always talk about the importance of carving out time for ourselves to create and make. Reflecting on this past year, have you been able to make that time? What did you create in those precious moments? Did you accomplish everything you hoped for? I’m looking back at all the things I made in 2024…
In this video, I share my reflections on what I managed to accomplish this year, inspired by the Plan Your Make Nine Challenge. This challenge, with a workshop offered at the School of SweetGeorgia by Tabetha Hedrick, helps organize creative goals with intention. It’s a gentle and encouraging way to focus on projects that bring joy.
“May 2024 be your year of empowering projects that make you feel joy.”
At the start of the year, I mapped out all my ambitious Make Nine plans. I considered not just the projects themselves but the tools, techniques, and learning opportunities each would bring. Then I organized my goals into three categories: discover, develop, and deepen. Specifically, I chose each project to either:
- Discover something new.
- Develop a specific skill.
- Deepen her understanding of a craft or technique.

I shared my plans in quite a bit of detail on the first Live Office Hours session of 2024. You can find the playlist of Live Office Hours on YouTube here. School of SweetGeorgia members can find the video with show notes here. For the first half of the year, I managed to stayed on track. But later on in the year, new opportunities sprung up and it changed the trajectory of what I ended up focusing on.

Highlights of What Got Done
- Weaving: Summer & winter blocks (in progress at the studio) based from the course in the School of SweetGeorgia, a double-weave plain blanket pattern for Weft magazine, waffle weave on four shafts (with plans to expand to six or eight in 2025), and handpainted warps (developed into a full course). I am also currently designing and weaving a little tartan-esque scarf, which will become part of a 2025 course, Weaving Stripes, Plaids & Tartans.
- Spinning & Knitting: Spinning yarn for the Nightshift Shawl by Andrea Mowry and working on knitting it, spinning additional yarn as needed.
- Circular Sock Machine (CSM) Knitting: This was the year I cranked many, many socks (even some pairs of socks!) from SweetGeorgia Secret Stash Club Yarns. The trick now is actually grafting them all closed.

Unexpected Projects Made
Not everything went as planned, but unexpected projects and opportunities led to exciting new projects and challenges:
- Weaving: The Kaleidoscope Scarf by Amanda Wood, which was the start of our Winterful Weave-Along, an article to accompany the double-weave blanket pattern for Weft Magazine, and more upcoming articles for Weft Magazine on sectional warping and using a warping trapeze (both topics offered at the school; Sectional Warping and the Intentional Weaver, both courses with Laura Fry).
- Knitting & Crochet: The Jethro cardigan (and a mini version currently being made for her daughter) by Janis Lavallee of Tanis Fiber Arts, the Girdwood Sweater by Caitlin Hunter in progress (knitting and spinning), the WPI hat, and three Flame and Flicker hats made with handspun yarn.

- Spinning: Learning fibre prep techniques, including dizzing fibre on a hand carder from the Spin a Hand Dyed Braid Five Ways with Kim McKenna course.
- CSM Knitting: Experimenting with mock rib socks and learning the Finchley graft technique.

What Didn’t Go as Planned
Looking back at my year-end review for 2024, I get that some plans had to be postponed, like using the ribber attachment or working on punch card colourwork on the SK-360 flatbed knitting machine. I also quickly understood why some makers might like to have multiple CSMs since resetting cylinders and needles can be time-consuming… but I’m not sure that multiple circular sock machines will fit in my attic!

Looking Ahead to 2025
I’m already reflecting on what I accomplished this year and thinking about what’s next. Not everything went as planned, and that’s okay. Each project, whether completed or postponed, offered lessons for the future.
